Nolan called the backlash irrelevant, arguing colloquial English keeps Homer’s story readable for today’s audiences. Musk criticized the casting choices in earlier posts. He separately offered to help fund a stricter, live-action adaptation pitched by actor Mel Gibson. Musk argues machine-generated fidelity to the original text honors Homer better than a modern retelling.

xAI Leans Further Into Its AI Race

The film pledge follows a busy stretch for xAI, the company behind Grok. xAI recently said SpaceX engineering data would train Grok’s next model. Grok 4.5 topped an independent benchmark for agent test performance, a result Musk cited as proof of its strength.

Musk also reversed his Anthropic stance last week, calling it the AI industry’s current leader, but he is still pushing Grok to compete on video generation.

Whether Grok Imagine can hold that quality across a full-length feature, rather than a three-minute clip, remains unproven. A fully AI-made blockbuster would test whether major studios can justify traditional production budgets and timelines. Musk has given himself five months to find out.
