Senators Ruben Gallego and Cynthia Lummis came forward with a resolution to ban a pardon, amnesty and any other reduction of sentence for former FTX exchange CEO Sam Bankman-Fried. They stated that he did not deserve release and pointed to the absence of any signs of remorse. 

As a reminder, Bankman-Fried filed an official pardon request with the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump in June 2026. He was previously sentenced to 25 years in prison in the fraud case. 

While serving his sentence, he gave an interview to New York Magazine in which he spoke about his imprisonment, his fears and his plans. He also reiterated the claim that he "did nothing wrong," since FTX customers ultimately received compensation.

Gallego and Lummis think otherwise. 

"Sam Bankman-Fried is a criminal. He deceived millions of Americans and stole their savings. But perhaps worst of all is that he has not shown a drop of remorse for his crimes, and instead is trying to ridiculously claim that he is a victim of a “lawfare.” What a mockery. Let him stay behind bars," Gallego stated. 

Bankman-Fried has indeed repeatedly claimed that he supposedly became a victim of a campaign by the administration of Joe Biden, the previous U.S. president, directed against the crypto sphere.

Lummis emphasized that the former FTX CEO had the opportunity to present his arguments. According to her, neither the judge nor the jury believed Bankman-Fried's story, and he received his sentence deservedly. 

It follows from the text of the document that the resolution aims to enshrine in the Senate a ban on any possible reduction of Bankman-Fried's sentence. This concerns not only a presidential pardon, but also amnesty and, probably, parole. 

The former FTX CEO himself, at the time of writing, had not commented on the situation in any way. He has no access to a computer or the internet, but he conveys messages and his thoughts through close associates who, among other things, run his X page. 

Earlier, Trump publicly emphasized that he does not plan to release Bankman-Fried. However, before that he pardoned the founder of the Silk Road darknet marketplace Ross Ulbricht, the co-founders of the BitMEX exchange and former Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao.
