Whale earns $2.71 million on Colombia-Uzbekistan football match

A trader under the handle endlessFate locked in around $2.71 million in profit on the Polymarket platform. The investor placed a large bet on Colombia's national team beating Uzbekistan at the football World Cup.

The trade caught the attention of Lookonchain analysts. Here is how it happened.

A $7.46 million bet

The whale bought a Yes position on the market "Will Colombia win 2026-06-17?". The investor acquired 10,171,908 shares at an average price of 73.3 cents, investing a total of $7.46 million. At the time of Lookonchain's publication, the position was worth $9.31 million. The unrealized profit at that point was $1.85 million (24.76%).

On June 18, Colombia defeated football World Cup debutant Uzbekistan with a score of 3:1. The goals were scored by Daniel Munoz, Luis Diaz and substitute Jhon Campaz, who netted in the ninth minute of added time. Uzbekistan scored one goal through Abbosbek Fayzullaev. It was the country's first goal in football World Cup history.

Where the $2.71 million came from

On Polymarket, every share of the winning outcome settles at $1. The whale held 10,171,908 Yes shares, so after Colombia's victory they brought around $10.17 million in payout. Of that amount, $7.46 million accounts for the initial investment, and the remaining roughly $2.71 million is pure profit on top of what was invested. Thus, the entry price of 73.3 cents per share is what delivered this return: the cheaper the share is bought, the higher the profit when it settles at $1.

Below are the exact details of the trade:

After the market settled, the whale's position was filled, and the profit for the day amounted to around $2.71 million. In the trader's profile, the value of active positions dropped to zero. This means the bet was closed at a profit.
