Associations of the US gambling industry have urged Congress to ban sports and casino-like prediction markets as part of crypto regulation.

In a letter to the Senate from the groups, which is, among other things, addressed to the American Gaming Association, it is stated that these platforms triggered the «largest expansion of the gambling industry» in US history. The authors believe that market players pass off bets as regulated financial products. In their view, the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) has neither the expertise nor the infrastructure to oversee sports betting.
