The TRON Foundation and the BitTorrent Foundation have developed a new cryptocurrency token called BTT, which, together with the existing version of the BitTorrent protocol, is aimed at making the cryptocurrency economy popular worldwide and ubiquitously used on the internet by millions of users.

The initial goal of the TRON and BitTorrent team is to optimize the BitTorrent protocol and create a blockchain network that will be supported by millions of computers on the internet. The team's further goals set the task of expanding the use of BitTorrent far beyond its current uses, which implies transforming the BitTorrent network into one very large computing resource at the expense of the unused capacities of users' computers, which will allow developers and companies to carry out complex computing processes, and ordinary users to earn additional income.

The TRON Foundation and the BitTorrent Foundation are officially registered legal entities. The country of registration is Singapore.

BitTorrent is one of the first types of distributed peer-to-peer data transfer protocol, which was invented back in 2001. The protocol was developed for the purpose of transferring large files between two nodes (computers) without the need to use a central server. BitTorrent is an open protocol, as well as a software tool that over the past years has been downloaded many millions of times by internet users in different countries around the world. In 2018, BiTorrent was acquired by the TRON Foundation in order to make the TRON protocol the largest decentralized protocol in the world.

The BitTorrent Foundation has been researching distributed applications for more than 10 years with the goal of developing completely new protocols that will allow BitTorrent to provide services such as distributed messaging, a BitTirrent-based CDN, the organization of live video broadcasts and the hosting of distributed websites.

In order to provide all users with the necessary amount of the BitTorrent token, a decision was made to issue 990,000,000,000 BTT, of which – a portion will be reserved for users of the BitTorrent torrent client, a portion will be issued to TRX holders, another portion will be issued to early investors, and a portion will also be distributed among the developers and founders of the TRON Foundation and the BitTorrent Foundation.
