The TRON development team is expanding. Over the past eight months, the development team has grown from two to more than 40 people. This was announced by the project's protocol lead Marcus Zhao in a YouTube interview. The expansion of the development team has allowed the engineers working on the project to define specializations and stabilize the TRON blockchain. According to Zhao, his goal is «high performance and scalability». He also reported that the blockchain engineers working at the TRON Foundation came to the company mainly from «prestigious internet companies» such as Alibaba and Baidu.

The lead noted that the project had to go through a difficult period, when it was necessary to handle development, design, hiring, and interaction with the TRON community while having only two engineers at its disposal. This led to overtime work and overloads, but the team was quickly expanded to about 10 people. A month after the launch of the TRON main network, which took place in June 2018, the number of engineers reached 20. In addition, the team was divided into three subgroups – the core architecture team, the algorithm team, and the virtual machine and smart contracts team. This made it possible to improve code quality and the stability of the public network. As of today, the TRON development team employs more than 40 senior-level engineers. «I believe that our team should strive to become one of the leading developer teams in the world … We hope that even more talented specialists will join TRON», Zhao noted.

It is also worth noting that last week the number of accounts on the TRON network exceeded 1 million, and the number of stored smart contracts reached 100 million. According to media reports, in 2019 Sun plans to bring TRON into the top 4 cryptocurrencies by market capitalization, overtake Ethereum, and move BitTorrent onto the blockchain.
