Celsius Founder Banned for Life From Trading on CFTC Markets

The Southern District of New York court approved a settlement between the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) and Celsius Network founder Alex Mashinsky. He was banned for life from trading on markets supervised by the CFTC and from registering with the regulator.
The Commission filed a lawsuit against Celsius and Mashinsky in 2023. In the CFTC's view, they misled clients about the safety and profitability of the platform, through which they raised about $20 billion. In May 2025 Mashinsky was sentenced to 12 years in prison in a criminal fraud case.
