The US authorities’ decision regarding Anthropic’s Fable 5 and Mythos 5 models may have been related not only to an alleged bypass of safeguards, TechCrunch reports. The outlet notes that the Commerce Department’s letter referred to an unnamed national security threat, while Axios described the situation as a communication conflict between the company and Donald Trump’s administration.

Luta Security founder Katie Moussouris stated that the scenario she examined should not have led to export restrictions. Earlier, Anthropic disabled Fable 5 and Mythos 5 for all users following a US directive that banned access to the models for foreign nationals both inside and outside the country.
