A system for boosting the performance of the Ethereum network has been successfully tested. The new solution for increasing the scalability of the cryptocurrency, Ignis, was developed by the Ethereum Foundation team together with specialists from the startup Matter Inc. The tested system is built on the basis of two technologies, Plasma and zkSNARKs. The Ignis solution will make it possible to increase the number of transactions per second to 500 and more. The network will be able to process operations with the help of the new system much faster, since transaction verification is replaced by a SNARK confirmation of the correctness of each new block, which is recognized by a smart contract automatically.

The developers note that if the system detects an incorrect block, the operator will simply refuse to use it. This makes using the network easier, since there is no longer a need to constantly stay on the platform and track every operation In the near term the developers want to improve the operation of the test system, which will make it possible to increase the number of processed transactions per second to over 500.

Alex Gluchowski, representing the Ethereum Foundation, stated that at present, within each block processed using the Ignis solution, only eight transactions can be carried out. But once the system starts functioning in normal mode, a block will be able to include up to 1600 operations. The development team wants to borrow the transaction-processing acceleration mechanism from the Zcash project, which has already achieved great results in this direction. It was previously reported that ETH developers plan to speed up work on updating the ether network. The software update will lead to the launch of the Ethereum 1x system, which will expand the capabilities of this digital currency's blockchain.
